Wash and Fold Process: From Bag to Drawer
See how we sort, clean, dry, fold, and return your everyday laundry with a guaranteed 24-hour turnaround.
What Happens After You Hand Over Your Laundry?
Once your bag reaches Duds N Suds Laundry, it moves through a clear wash and fold process: intake, sorting, stain treatment when requested, washing, drying, folding, and return. This guide explains each stage, including what you should remove or identify before handoff. Whether you drop off a bag at our Murfreesboro location or arrange pickup, your clothes come back clean, neatly folded, and ready to put away.
Step 1: Intake, Weigh-In, and Pre-Wash Inspection
When your bag arrives, we confirm that it is a wash-and-fold order and note the instructions you provided. These may include a stain-treatment request, a detergent preference, or a delicate item that needs extra attention. Clear instructions at intake help us give each garment appropriate care later.
Wash-and-fold service is priced by weight, so your laundry is weighed for billing. You can review the current drop-off and pickup options on our wash-and-fold service page.
Before handing over a bag, empty every pocket. Pens, lip balm, keys, receipts, and tissues can mark clothing or create a mess in the wash. Remove anything labeled “Dry Clean Only” or “Do Not Tumble Dry.” Whirlpool’s care-symbol guide explains the symbols used for washing, drying, and heat restrictions.
Tell us about visible stains when you place the order. Identifying the cause, such as food, makeup, or grease, helps us choose an appropriate treatment. If you are unsure which garments belong in the bag, use our wash-and-fold packing checklist before drop-off or pickup.
Step 2: Sorting in Our Wash and Fold Process
Next, we automatically sort garments into lights, darks, and delicates. Sorting helps limit color transfer and keeps finer fabrics away from heavier pieces that could rub, pull, or snag them.
Fabric weight matters because towels and jeans move differently in a washer than lightweight knits or lace. Separating these groups protects delicate surfaces while allowing sturdier everyday laundry to receive suitable cleaning.
According to Whirlpool, laundry can be separated by color, fabric type, soil level, and care instructions. New dark denim, strongly colored clothing, and items with unusual finishes need particular attention because they may release dye or require a restricted cycle.
Duds N Suds also provides stain pre-treatment on request at no extra charge. Treatment takes place before washing, so point out the stain instead of assuming it will be obvious during sorting. Avoid aggressive scrubbing at home because abrasive rubbing can spread a mark or damage some weaves.

Step 3: Commercial Washing and Controlled Drying
Once sorting is complete, we wash your clothes with premium detergent and modern, high-capacity equipment. Eco-friendly and hypoallergenic detergent options are included at no extra charge, so tell us about your preference when placing the order.
The sorted groups can receive appropriate handling instead of sending every garment through one identical cycle. Water movement, cycle strength, and heat affect how fabrics hold their color and shape. Delicates generally need gentler movement, while sturdy everyday cotton clothing can tolerate more mechanical action.
Drying requires the same attention. Excessive heat can contribute to shrinkage, damage heat-sensitive fibers, and set wrinkles. Care labels therefore matter after washing as well as before it. Do not place a non-tumble-dry item in a standard wash-and-fold bag unless you have confirmed that its care instructions can be accommodated.
Commercial equipment keeps the process efficient, but speed does not replace fabric care. Our Duds N Suds team has more than 60 years of combined experience, and we treat clothes and linens with the same care we would give our own.
Step 4: Inspection, Folding, and Preparation
After drying, we neatly fold your garments so they are ready to put away when you collect them or receive your delivery.
A proper finishing check confirms that clothing is dry before folding, including thicker areas such as waistbands, cuffs, and seams. It can also include matching socks and checking for marks that remain visible. Some stains cannot be removed safely, so requesting treatment at intake gives us the opportunity to address a spot before drying.
Consistent folds keep stacks manageable during handoff and make unpacking faster at home. If you want to assess a completed order, our professional wash-and-fold quality checklist covers cleanliness, dryness, folding, and presentation.
Fast Turnaround: Your Laundry Back in 24 Hours
The washer and dryer cycles are only part of the schedule. Each order must also move through intake, sorting, requested stain treatment, folding, and preparation for return. We coordinate those stages to provide a guaranteed 24-hour turnaround on wash, dry, and fold orders. Drop-off customers can also ask about same-day availability.
For pickup and delivery, you can leave your bags on the porch without being home. We collect the laundry and return it fresh and folded to your home or office within our Murfreesboro service area. Pickup and delivery are free within that area.
The service removes the need to sort, move loads between machines, wait for drying, and fold everything yourself. It is designed for busy Murfreesboro families, professionals, students, and local businesses that need predictable laundry care. MTSU students can also ask about the special discount on drop-off orders. Our Bradyville Pike facility is open from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. every day for customers who prefer to drop off their laundry.
